Increasing cases of this sex disease: The number of people who are resistant to drugs is also increasing

The resistance of STDs to antibiotics poses an increasing threat to public health.

Gonorrhea could become "incurable" with global cases of sexually transmitted disease reaching an all-time high.

England peaked in 2023, the most since 1918 was recorded, with 85,000 cases reported.

Antibiotic ceftriaxone is the first stage of treatment in the United Kingdom, but the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has marked in new data that there are an increasing number of cases that are drug-resistant.

The WHO advertised

From 2015 to 2021, there were only nine cases of gonorrhea reported as ceftriaxone-resistant, but between June 2022 and May 2024, there were 15 such cases considered "distinctly drug-resistant".

- A highly drug-resistant gonorrhea with high levels of resistance to the currently recommended treatment of gonorrhea (ceftriaxone), but it also includes resistance to penicillin, sulfonamides, tetracyclines, fluorokinolones, and macrolides (including azithromycin) is called superbug gonorrhea or super gonorrhea - reported from the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to UKHSA data, all sufferers were heterosexual, with most in their 20s and all getting super gonorrhea while abroad.

Dr. Helen Fifer, microbiologist advisor at UKHSA, said:

- Gonorrhea is becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics, and there is a possible risk of becoming incurable in the future. Untreated gonorrhea can lead to serious health issues, including pelvic inflammation and infertility.

Urgent action

She added that condoms are the best defense.

- But if you haven't used them with a recent new or casual partner, get tested to detect infection and prevent further transmission - she warned.

Professor Mat Phillips, president of the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH), added:

- The rise in antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea infections in England is a troubling trend that must be addressed by emergency action. The resistance of STDs to antibiotics poses an increasing threat to public health, which can create physical and psychological harm and can make additional demands to the health care system.

If you have this health issue, avoid watermelon in a wide arc.

Watermelon is full of natural sugar, which can cause a spike in blood sugar. Watermelon is rich in magnesium, zinc, potassium and vitamin B. It is abundant in proteins, and has very few calories, and you can enjoy it to your heart's content without a guilty conscience. Watermelon consumption promotes weight loss, and it is believed that it may have anticancer effects. The medium-sized watermelon contains about 92 per cent water, so it's a great option to be hydrated on hot summer days. A 2019 study, which examined the effects of watermelon consumption on satiety and body weight in overweight and obesity in adults, found that those who consumed two watermelon slices daily over four weeks felt less hungry and lost significantly more weight than the group that consumed low-calorie cookies. Yet despite being so healthy, it's not suitable for all people, writes Web MD. However, nutritionists warn that consuming watermelon for one group of people is not the best, and it i...
